The Team

Anglers first, students always

The Colt Bass Fishing Club gives Arlington High students a place to fish competitively, spend their weekends on the water instead of in front of a screen, and learn from the adults who volunteer their boats and their time. The team competes in the Metroplex Division of the Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA).

Compete for the Colts

Team anglers fish the THSBA Metroplex Division trail against high schools from across the Dallas–Fort Worth area, launching before sunrise and weighing in by the afternoon.

Learn the craft

Casting, knot tying, electronics, boat safety, and lake-reading. Whether you have fished your whole life or never held a rod, there is a place for you.

Built by volunteers

The club runs on parent volunteers, adult boat captains, and community support. Families who give their time and their boats are what put Colt anglers on the water.

The Season

How a tournament day goes

Every tournament is a full day on the water with your team. Student anglers fish from a boat with an adult captain, work the lake together, and bring the day’s catch to the scales.

Between events the club gets together as needed to talk strategy, rig baits, review results, and plan the next trip. Announcements go out to members through the club.

  1. Step 01
    Meet before daylight

Boats launch at first light. Anglers check in, load up, and get the rundown for the day.

  2. Step 02
    Fish the pattern

You and your captain work a game plan — grass, docks, points, or deep structure — and adjust as the sun climbs.

  3. Step 03
    Weigh in

Head to the scales with your limit. Every ounce counts when the field is tight.

  4. Step 04
    Celebrate and relax

Hang out with your team at the weigh-in location — trade stories, grab something to eat, and enjoy the rest of the day on the water.

Questions

Good to know

Who can join the team?

Students at Arlington High School — the league is open to grades 9–12, and anglers must be passing all enrolled subjects to compete. Reach out and we will walk you through registration.

Do I need my own boat or gear?

THSBA events require each team to fish from a boat with an adult captain, and every student angler must be paired with one. Many families partner up — let us know if you need help finding a seat, and ask us what gear you actually need to get started.

I have never fished before. Is that a problem?

Not at all. Half the fun is learning. Club members and captains will teach you the basics — casting, knots, safety, and how to find fish.

How much of a time commitment is it?

Tournament days are long — typically an early morning launch and an afternoon weigh-in — plus meetings between events. Ask us for the current schedule so you can plan around other activities.

Does fishing conflict with other sports or activities?

Students balance the club with other commitments all the time. Talk to us about the schedule and we will help you make it work.

How much does it cost?

League fees are set by the Texas High School Bass Association, which charges a season membership per student angler and a tournament entry fee per boat. Ask us about the current amounts.

I am a parent with a boat. How can I help?

We are always looking for adult boat captains. Captains take student anglers out for tournament days and must meet the requirements of the trail the team fishes. Get in touch and we will walk you through it.
